Cole Kmet describes the resounding reaction Caleb Williams received making his first public appearance in Chicago
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

Multiple members of the Chicago Bears are already building rapport with their new franchise quarterback and a few players took him out over the weekend to embrace the city of Chicago for the first time.

During Saturday's game between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers, Caleb Williams was accompanied by tight end Cole Kmet, wide receivers Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, and many other of his new teammates in the stands.

The reaction by the Cubs fans seeing the Bears' new star quarterback was of course thundering before he even walked into Wrigley Field.

"Yeah that was cool and I knew it would be cool for him," Kmet said on the Parkins & Spiegel Show. "I don't know if he really knew what he was walking into yet. I was like 'hey do you realize what you are going to? People are going to erupt.' You're at a Saturday 1:20 Cubs game vs the Brewers. This is primetime for people in Chicago."

Williams quickly learned what he was walking into and it was a situation that was widely different compared to Bears' quarterbacks in the past making their first public appearance after joining the team.

As Parkins and Spiegel explained to Kmet, former Bears first round pick Mitch Trubisky was literally boo'd during his first public appearance at a Chicago Bulls game after being drafted second overall.

The reaction for Williams was the opposite with fans going wild in the ballpark cheering on their new quarterback in attendance.

Williams also showed off what has become his new go-to Bears celebration know as the "Bear Claw" that drew up quite the reaction from the fans in the stands

"I was like: 'Give them the claw, give them the claw!'," Kmet said. "He finally got up and gave them the weird bear claw thing that he started and everyone freaking loved that. I think it's a little cheesy but I think it's hysterical."

It seems like Williams and his new teammates had a blast during the game and the energy they provided even helped spark the Cubs to win 6-5 after losing to the Brewers 3-1 the night before. It's definitely an exciting time to be a sports fan in Chicago and it's great to see Williams already get such a warm welcome in the city.

"You can just feel the energy behind it," Kmet said. "There is an excitement about what's going on. We've added a lot of good pieces offensively and there's just some excitement about this... I think the people of Chicago have recognized that."
