Manchester City are again linked with a Wolves winger but do they need him?

Manchester City has once again been linked with a summer move for Wolves winger Pedro Neto. With the summer transfer window set to open next month, the champions will be looking to strengthen their squad. While Pedro Neto is a quality player, do Manchester City actually need him? That appears the question to ponder on the back of City’s reported interest in the Wolves winger.

John Percy has reported for the Telegraph that Wolves have set an asking price of £60 million for Pedro Neto. Furthermore, Percy also reports that Manchester City and Newcastle United are monitoring the situation surrounding Neto. With an asking price reportedly set for the Wolves winger, do Manchester City actually need a player like Pedro Neto? That’s a different question entirely.

Would there be room for Pedro Neto in the Manchester City squad?

As it stands currently, Manchester City does appear well stocked for players who can play on the wing. Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish, and Oscar Bobb all ply their trade on the wing. Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden can also slot in on the wing when required. There is also the potential addition of Savio this summer. Adam Bate has previously reported for SkySports that the Brazilian winger is set to arrive at Manchester City this summer. With those options at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, it doesn’t appear that there is an immediate need for Pedro Neto in the Manchester City squad.

As a player, there is no doubt that Pedro Neto has the quality to perform at the highest level. He has shown this season his immense quality for Gary O’Neil’s side. His injury record is a concern, but he is a player who could fit into Pep Guardiola’s lineup. The problem is that on closer inspection, there doesn’t appear to be a role for the Portuguese international in City’s squad. That may change depending on who departs the Premier League champions this summer. City’s interest in Pedro Neto may be a potential move to watch for this summer. But there does appear to be more pressing needs for Manchester City to address this summer rather than adding another winger to their squad.
